DAPcell - a local DAP server for Windows
Every DAP application running under Windows requires a DAPcell server, the local DAP Server for Windows operating system that enables real-time data acquisition and control applications to run under Windows. All production DAP boards and iDSC boards come with the DAPtools Basic software package, and this includes the local DAP server. The DAPtools Standard software package includes the DAPcell Local Server – recommended for any application that requires disk logging. Every model in the entire range of DAP boards has its own onboard intelligence implemented as DAPL, a multitasking real-time operating system optimized for high-performance real-time data acquisition and control applications on a PC. Many DAP models have onboard processors. These are shipped with DAPL 2000 – a full implementation of DAPL. DAPL runs a data acquisition application on a DAP, free from any delays imposed by Windows or other programs running on the PC at the same time. Windows is a preemptive multitasking operating system. It is not a real-time system. But many Windows users require real-time data acquisition and control, and for them Data Acquisition Processor boards and software from Microstar Laboratories present a ready-made solution. Windows uses up a lot of cycles on the PC platform, and when it takes control of the CPU it holds on to it for a long time – in real-time terms. In measuring or controlling a real-time process, computing power has to be available when it is needed. If computing power isn't available, readings are lost and measurements are corrupted...or a process goes out of control. A DAP solves this problem with onboard intelligence. Onboard intelligence deals up front with the critical parts of any application – the parts that run in real time. DAPcell Basic Server
